About:
Gary Colclough’s work considers the constructed nature of the landscape and engages with the histories of its representation. ’The Place We’re in’ is a new work that uses wall painting and sculpture to create an environment constructed around two drawings of a mountain range.

The drawings are contained by a wooden framework that extends outwards into a geometric pattern that attempts to evoke elements from modernist abstraction and interior design. The painted walls take their composition from cues in the geometries of the works, with colours selected from a range of aspirational heritage wall paint. Through this arrangement Colclough creates an environment that at once amplifies elements of the images but is itself an abstracted domestic space, part interior of a modernist painting, part living room.

Gary Colclough studied at Chelsea College of Art & Design 1996-1999 and Central Saint Martins 2008-2009. Recent solo exhibitions include: Neither From Nor Towards, Art Seen, Nicosia, Cyprus (2017); Choreography of Fragments, La Galerie Particuliére, Paris (2017); Material Symmetry, William Benington Gallery, London (2015); Recent group shows include The London Open, Whitechapel Gallery (2018); New Relics, Thames-side Gallery, London (2018); Painting Notes Art Seen, Nicosia, Cyprus (2018).
